William Hobbs
Founder/President
Basketball Trainer/Mentor
The Person
William Hobbs began his basketball journey the summer before his seventh grade year at the age of 12, while on summer vacation and drawing inspiration from his uncle who was a local basketball star. That summer William played 6-7 hours per day epitomizing focus, commitment and dedication to the game of basketball. The love, passion and dedication was apparent with the countless hours of basketball drills and being a student of the game, including intense game film studying. With all the hard work and dedication two years later he earned a spot on the Junior Varsity basketball team as a freshman in high school.
The following year as a sophomore William earned a spot on the varsity team, started and solidified his spot in the program. For the next three years William led the way in the resurgence of the West Aurora High School Program in which his senior year was one of the top teams in the state of Illinois. During his senior year William drew interest from several Division One programs but attended junior college his freshman year because of being a partial academic qualifier for a basketball scholarship.
After one year of junior college basketball William had an opportunity to play basketball with his close childhood friend and received a basketball scholarship to Dillard University of New Orleans. William started for two years played alongside future pro players and earned the team Coaches Award his junior year. Looking to have a tremendous senior year and pursue pro basketball after graduation, William suffered a leg injury before the start of the season which in turn cut his career short. It was during his senior year in which he used the same focus, dedication and commitment in basketball toward his academics in which he obtained a 3.8 GPA and earned high honor roll status encompassing the true definition of Student-Athlete and receiving his degree. Through his playing career, travels and experiences, it is the mission of Will4TheGame to not only teach fundamentals and skills, but to mentor and groom players to maximize their fullest potential.
How it Started
In 2010 during a Saturday morning around 5:30am William was in the gym working his craft and fine tuning his skills, preparing himself for a recreational basketball league in which a gentleman took notice of the intensity, focus and passion displayed while working on his basketball game on the court. He approached and asked if he had ever trained anyone in which William said "my younger brother but that was the only one". A week later William began working with gentleman's son, which was the summer before his freshman year and continued for his entire high school career. As a freshman he made the freshman team and was a part time starter. The following year as a sophomore he was promoted to a starter on the varsity, eventually becoming a three year varsity starter. During his high school career he earned a multitude of accolades, eventually became a Division One basketball athlete. Word spread about the passion, personability, and knowledge of the game William Hobbs displays while working with players which in turn has enabled the growth of Will4TheGame and the privilege of training countless players from Elementary School to the Division One level and Adults.
